By jake97 , February 2, in St. Yes - the southern end of the beach around Club Orient - which is the nudist resort north to around Pedros I think? For the past year they have been increasing the fines for early morning beach walkers who think they can venture past Pedros nude. The fact of the matter is Orient is a split beach - One half is a nude beach, the other is a textile beach. Keep in mind you ARE in France and their will be plenty of women going topless. We don't do Orient Beach very often with family so it would be best to listen to someone else about where exactly to secure your chair rentals but I'm confident that if you chose Waikiki or BBB you will be fine. Honestly, no. There is no guarantee whatsoever.

My husband just told someone at work that we are planning to go to st. Maarten and he told him that there is a lot of nude beaches there. Are there really, we plan on staying at sonesta great bay on the Dutch side.
How family friendly is the beach? I've read that topless sunbathing is the norm on the island and would like to avoid that if possible. Also, is it better to take a taxi from the cruise port, or rent a car which appears to be cheaper? Maho Beach and the beachfront in Philipsburg are family friendly. We've never seen topless bathers there. Orient Beach on the French side of the island is definitely a nude beach. There have been some reports of some topless sunbathers at Mullet Bay Beach, but this is not the norm. If you go to the big bars at the left side of Maho Beach, looking at the ocean you'll likely see topless women, as they get free drinks if they sit topless apparently. However, if you wander down to the right side of the beach, you'll avoid all of that and still have planes flying right over your head. The big one to really see us Air France.
Some of St. Maarten's beaches change shape and size according to the whims of weather. They range from places with lots of surf to quiet, nearly deserted coves. This page tells you about every significant SXM beach -- including those that are clothing optional. If you may be offended, don't look -- and don't go to SXM's clothing optional beaches. Just In Case. Got SkyMed questions? Leeward side beaches are less windy but hotter.
